MYSURU: A year after the competition of construction of double rail tracks between Bengaluru and Mysuru, South Western Railways has been unable to introduce even a single new train in the route due to terminal constraints at Mysuru station.
According to railway authorities, additional trains can operate only after setting up of another terminal station, which is proposed at Kadakola, 15 km from the city. The Mysuru station is landlocked and there is little scope for expansion.
Also, though it was initially claimed that Bengaluru can be reached within two hours after the
completion of the doubling project, in reality, travel duration has been down by just 10 minutes. There is a lot of demand to operate more trains between the two stations for the overall economic development of Mysuru.
Though the double line will be helpful in decongesting Bengaluru railway station by diverting trains to the city, the Mysuru station is also at its threshold of capacity. The proposal for station at Kadakola has been sent to railway head office in Hubballi, which once approved, will be sent to railway board in Delhi for final consent.Speaking to TOI, Atul Gupta, divisional railway manager, Mysuru division, South Western Railway, said "Mysuru railway station is congestedand it is difficult to accommodate new trains. We have already sent a proposal for a terminal station at Kadakola at an estimated cost of Rs 70 crore."
It may be noted that the Mysuru- Bengaluru double line project is completed, except for a 1.5km stretch in Srirangapatna station limits, where shifting of Tipu's armoury and bridge works are under progress. It may take another couple of months to get completed.
The first train to roll on this route was Mysuru-Sainagar Shirdi weekly Express on November 30 last year. According to railway authorities, currently 24 trains, including bi-weekly and weekly trains, run in this route.
Every day, on an average, 4,000 people travel between Mysuru and Bengaluru on a regular basis, and the number is increases five to 10% every year.

SWR will be ready to arrange trains to other states even at the peak times at their major stations, but when it comes to trains to places of KA, they use their trump card "congestion".

There has recently been a lot of frustration among RFs when their Station Pics, Loco Pics, Train Pics get rejected because the "number is not showing", "shed is not visible", the loco/train is at a distance, Train Board is too small, "better pic available", etc. . To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...

-@all members: As of recently, there has been a trend whereby minor name updates of Trains/Stations - whether such and such regional name should be there or not, whether the train should be called "Abc Express" or "Abc Superfast Express", etc. are threatening to take over the majority of Timeline entries. Also,...
