Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Shantaram Naik (MP) today said Thivim Station was a gateway of Goa to those coming to the state by railways and hence Konkan Railway should make all efforts to make it a smart station.
Speaking after inaugurating a railway project of 90 lakh, he said Konkan Railways had to develop Canacona and Bali stations on Konkan Railway route so that the route was used by the office-going Goans.
Mr Naik said the road leading to Thivim Railway Station needed to be beautified so that tourist getting down
at Thivim station got impressed.
Stating that Goa was part of Hubli Division which did not take any interest to obtain MPLAD funds which he offered to develop Vasco Railway Station, he said Goa should be given the status of an independent Railway Division as it was an independent state.
Shivdas Kambli, President of Thivim Block Congress Committee, Sarpanch Tripti Shinde, Protocol Officer of Konkan Railway Baban Ghatge, among others were present on the occasion.UNI AKM NV SV 1247

* Goa has only single lines which are heavily saturated. It need doubling on priority so that more and more trains can run faster with punctuality and paxs are benefited with short journey times, minimal waiting time at stations, and lesser rush at the stations.
* Making Thivim, a smart station and providing all the prevalent passenger amenities is a good step. But doubling of tracks is very much required for Goa and should be taken up on priority.
* A section of people in Goa opposing the doubling of railway tracks
is a matter of concern.

I would like to warn those in Goa being up in arms against track doubling as well as any rail development. Please realise there is no alternative to it, the best (which will turn out to be the worst tomorrow) you can do is postpone it and not do away with it. This postponing will be accompanied by indescribable harm in the long run by way of stunted railway growth, resulting in overall lack of development. When realisation dawns, it will be too late and you may be left far behind. No use then crying over spilt milk .Just as Kerala is now. You have a live example.
