Guwahati Railway Station first in North-East to run completely on Solar Power

more coaches will be fitted with bio-toilets by the end of this year to achieve the goal of ensuring that all trains in Northeast are fitted with discharge-free toilets, stated the NFR in a press release issued by its Chief Public Relations Officer.

Already, the 81-km Chaparmukh–Silghat Town section has been converted into a discharge-free Green Corridor in August, 2017, it said.

As a part of its continuous commitment towards a greener, safer and more sustainable environment, the NFR has also planted 5, 33,300 plant saplings within its areas during 2017-18 year, the NFR added.

The saplings were planted along railway tracks, around office buildings, in stations, residential colonies, schools, workshops and various parks maintained by railways.

As the NFR is maintaining the saplings, the survival rate is quite high, claimed NFR.

Although Railway is one of the most non-polluting transportation means, the Indian Railway (IR) understands its responsibilities for positive contribution for preserving the environment for our future generation, it said.

As conscious decision to reduce its carbon footprint by reducing energy consumption, the NFR has also started harnessing of solar power and replacement of traditional lighting with LED lights to achieve the goal.

Each of the stations under the zone has been provided with 100% LED-lighting, the NFR said.

Guwahati Railway Station has also achieved distinction of being the first in North-East to run completely powered with grid connected Solar Power with commissioning of a 700 KWp solar plant, it informed.

Roof mounted solar panels in various office and station buildings in Northeast are generating 1258 KWp of Solar Power leading savings of 15 lakh units of electricity and Rs. 1.25 crore of annual energy bills, it added.

3055 KWp of solar power generating capacity will be commissioned by August 2018 resulting in savings of 36 lakh units of electricity and resulting in savings of more than Rs. 3 core in energy bills, the NFR further maintained.

@all: While we do nominally allow multiple IDs, these multiple IDs are NOT allowed to engage in misuse and "mischief". Voting multiple times in the same poll using multiple IDs, rating each other IDs' blogs using multiple IDs, etc. are classified as "gross misuse". . This is an advance notice that some of the...
