PUNE: The preliminary work of the geo-technical investigation, including soil testing, started this week on reach-3 of the Civil Court to Ramwadi Metro route. The work on the Raja Bahadur Mill Road ahead of the Regional Transport Office (RTO) towards Pune station was taken up this week. The authorities have been conducting soil tests using advanced machinery at the road median. A MahaMetro official said all the necessary precautionary and safety measures had been taken to avoid traffic obstruction and the spot had been enclosed with barricades. The Civil Court to Ramwadi route will be an elevated Metro corridor. It will include the city’s vital areas such as RTO, Pune station, Ruby Hall Clinic, Bund Garden, Yerawada and Kalyaninagar. It will end at Ramwadi on Pune-Ahmednagar road. The MahaMetro official said the geo-technical work would be extended on the entire corridor in a phased manner. The work will begin at the Bund Garden...
park in the next few days. Similar tests will be planned on Pune-Ahmednagar road in Ramwadi in later stages. The contractor will finalize the design of the pillars’ foundation once the testing is done. The MahaMetro recently appointed an agency to design and construct the Civil Court-Ramwadi corridor, the total length of which 7.6km. The agency is expected to start the actual civil work in the next one month. The major challenges will include the construction of the elevated corridor on the busy sections of Yerawada, Pune station, Bund Garden and Kalyaninagar, construction of viaducts over the railway tracks near Sangam bridge and over the river at Sangam bridge and Bund Garden towards Yerawada.Apart from the corridor work, the MahaMetro invited tenders to select the contractor for the construction of the seven elevated stations on the route. The top officials of MahaMetro, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the local corporators recently conducted a field visit of the crucial spots on Ahmednagar road to chalk out a plan to ensure coordination between the Metro and other proposed infrastructure works by the PMC on Ahmednagar road.A source in the PMC said the administration had been working on a proposal of an underpass and flyover at Shastrinagar and Gunjan theatre chowks. The administration would have to finalize the options in the next few months to avoid further confusions.MahaMetro said it was ready to work in coordination with the PMC to execute the infrastructure projects.
