New Delhi: South Western Railway division is all set to give Mysuru railway station a much-needed facelift. officials saying that Rs 16.5 crore has been allocated to the upgrade the station. The upgrade will include construction of executive lounge, waiting room upgrade, escalator and lift installation, foot-over bridge. Though the station already has ascending escalators, descending escalators will also be installed for passengers' convenience.
The report quoted SWR Mysuru division manager Aparna Garg saying, "The projected growth of traffic to Mysuru station is very encouraging in view of the reduction in transit time to and from Bengaluru, coupled with convenience and more economical fares. As a result, redevelopment of the railway station and enhancement of amenities are imminent."
The space inside and outside the station which witnesses more public movement will be expanded under the project. Foot overbridge will be extended as well to ensure that platforms have shelter across the length and width. Parcel office will be shifted as well to decongest circulating area.
The current Mangalore tiles will be replaced with something more appealing and the station will be repainted with bright colours to give it a new and fresh look. Despite all the changes, the officials are consulting heritage committee to make sure that the architectural heritage and significance of the station is not lost due to the makeover, the report further added.
The initiative aims to make Mysuru one of the cleanest and user-friendly stations in the country.
