A 26 year-old civil engineer has registered a complaint with Agripada police after he was allegedly duped by three people. The trio allegedly assured him of getting him a government job in Group C category of the Indian Railways.
The complainant, identified as Santosh Aade, is a civil engineer. Aade alleged that the accused Rahul Kokare, Santosh Jamnik and Satish Deshmukh demanded Rs 25 lakhs from him out of which he paid Rs 9.1 lakhs.
According to Aade, after completing his graduation, he was pursuing a BE degree. However, due to financial crunch,
he had to drop out. Later, he began looking for a job.
Meanwhile, he met Kokare who said that he was working in group D of the railways, and was doing his service at Daund railway station in Maharashtra. Kokare assured Aade that if he manages to pay the money, his job as a junior engineer in group C shall be guaranteed.
"Initially, Aade was asked to pay Rs 50,000 so that his name appears on the final list of selected candidates. Later, he was asked for another Rs 3.5 lakh for his medical check-up, following which the payment was supposed to be made. Aade was given a roll number (59905260) and was also asked to deposit some money in the bank account of Jamnik. The railways website also showed Aade's name and said that he shall be posted at Kolkata region," said a police officer.
After a while, Aade went to Kolkata along with his father to get done with his medical test as directed by Deshmukh and after few weeks, when the tests were completed, Deshmukh sent a soft copy of the medical reports on railway letterhead to Aade which claimed that he was fit for joining the service after which Aade paid some more money to Deshmukh's account.
"The remaining money was to be paid after Aade received his official joining letter. After waiting for several weeks when no response came, the trio said that his name couldn't reach for job approval and when asked for refund they refused for that as well. A total of Rs 9.1 lakhs was accepted by the accused over a series of online transactions. The accused are said to have duped over 6 people by giving them similar fake job assurances. We have registered a case under section 471, 468, 467, 465, 420 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code and section 66d and 66b of the Information Technology Act and necessary investigation is underway," the officer added.
