Hi,
We want to book train tickets for Mumbai - Pathankot & return. We are approximately 25-30 people wanting to travel in May which is a peak season.
Any suggestions on how to get such large number of tickets done?
Please advice.

I have gone through Entry Re# 483905-5 which handles this question partly, but wanted to be a bit more clear on this feature:
The Feature that shows that 'Total Seats available for this Class/Quota:' is presently showing 'Avbl 68'
Now my Ticket is W/L #8 in TATKAL QUOTA for 3AC
Am i to understand that the availability is 68 in this

particular train departing on 17/04/2013 ?
If 'Yes' then it would mean that my W/L of 8 will certainly get confirmed?
How does the system arrive at this calculation of Avbl 68 ? I'm confused more due to the huge variation between W/L8 and AVBL 68.
Can someone please explain this in a little detail please. It would surely help a lot of people like us.
Thanks a tonne for the wonderful detail and info i've been getting from you all.
Actual Data fetched on 17/4/13 around 15:30pm for journey at 20:05pm same day.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Date of Journey: Wed Apr 17, 2013 Class: AC 3-tier - 3A (Total Seats available for this Class/Quota: Avbl 68)
Latest Status as of: Today (3:06PM) Refresh Status
Passenger 1: Waitlist# 8 (Booking Status: W/L 15,CK)
Chart NOT Prepared

Thanks again
Amit

EXPERIENCE ON TATKAL BOOKING ON IRCTC Website.
I am a regular user and have been using the service since it started. I have booked Tatkal Tickets many a times in the past.
I tried to book a tatkal ticket today i.e 15/04/2013 for journey on 16/04/2013 and the payment was processed but PNR was not generated. Thus the transaction did not go through.
By

this time the train tickets i was trying for got exhausted in the Tatkal Quota. I tried another train where i had 9 tickets available.
However, on the final screen, i was shown the message that 'only 2 tatkal tickets can be booked on 1 User ID' and that 'only 2 transaction can be done from 1 IP address between, 8-10 and 10-12 time slots.
I could not even book 1 ticket and missed the opportunity to travel due to some flaw in the system.
Instead of getting better, the IRCTC service is getting worse.
What option is left for passengers but to depend on Touts and agents when:
1. IRCTC servers are EXTREEEMELY SLOW
2. Transactions do not go through
3. There is no dependability at all.
4. in 15 minutes Tatkal Quotas are exhausted!!
5. After securing an available ticket the Transaction does not go through.
6. Then some programming flaw does not allow Passenger to book a ticket.

Hi. Would suggest that you write to IRCTC. That way at least the count of complains will force them to give attention to the problem.

1. We had an E-Ticket booked from MY Account with IRCTC. The Passengers could not travel as the connecting train was late.
2. I had filed TDR vide reference No: ekt2012052804887297 on 28/05/2012 with reference to PNR NO: 6407565337.
3. Railways has rejected the claim vide their letter No. CCR040612V14025/12.07.12/CR and the reason being : 23314-CR/OL12 As per chart, passenger has travelled.
4.

I have immediately reverted vide my email dt.13/09/2012 to IRCTC and have provided proof and confirmation that the Passengers DID NOT travel on the said train as the passengers had fortunately travelled immediately thereafter on a valid ticket bearing PNR No: 6409095006, also booked from the IRCTC Website and from my Account, thus providing proof that the passengers could not have travelled on the prior dated Ticket bearing PNR NO: 6407565337 for which TDR has been filed.
5. IRCTC acknowledged my email and sent me an email on 30/09/2012 stating "we have sent letter to CR Railway on 30-August-2012 stating that 'Train Missed As Connecting Train Was Late.', so please reopen the case".
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Various emails have been sent as reminders after the above communication from IRCTC but NO REPLY from them till date.
a. What can i do next to ensure i get my claim?
b. Who can i approach if IRCTC is not replying?
c. Is there any established process?
Thanks in advance to this active forum and helpful members. Appreciate it!
amit :)

(a) If a ticket is presented for cancellation more than 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the train cancellation charge shall be deducted at the flat rate of Rs. 70/- for A.C First Class/Executive Class, Rs. 60/- for A.C. 2 Tier sleeper class/ A.C. 3 Tier sleeper class/ First class/A.C Chair Car, Rs. 40/- for Sleeper class and Rs. 20/- for Second class.
The Rule above seems clear but my friend said that he had cancelled a CONFIRMED Tick a day prior to travel, but within 24 hours and only Rs.60/- was deducted, thus asking the following Q:

I have a confirmed e-ticket for Tomorrow i.e 09/01/13 Train Dep: 17:15
Q1: If I cancel the above ticket, will I lose 25% of the fare or just Rs.60/- ?
Q2: Had I cancelled it earlier i.e before 17:15 today (More than 24 hrs to Dep ) would the scenario have changed ?
Need urgent reply to Q1 at least! :)
Thank you
Amit

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
