Nov 29 (15:33)   Land acquisition issue threatens to derail rail terminal project

sachinature~   1322 news posts
Entry# 5148705   News Entry# 471164         Tags   Past Edits
The Naganahalli Railway Terminus which is critical to handling additional trains to and from Mysuru is set for a derailment due to delay in the land acquisition process.
Though the project was envisaged to be completed by 2024 and included as a priority project by the Railway Board, the work is yet to get started.
The project was mooted to increase the capacity of the Mysuru station to handle additional trains and in its absence the full benefits of track doubling and electrification by way of running additional trains on the
Mysuru-Bengaluru section will not materialise.
In the interim, the Railway Board has sanctioned the yard remodeling of the Ashokapuram Railway Station to create additional stabling lines so as to overcome capacity constraints of Mysuru station. It will be taken up at a cost of ₹15.71 crore.
There is also a proposal for additional stabling line at Belagola on the outskirts of the city where some of the long distance trains can be shunted once their primary or secondary maintenance have been completed at the pit lines in Mysuru.
However, Naganahalli Terminus is critical for the long-term growth and development of the railways and the local economy. Though Mysuru MP Pratap Simha has sought funds to get the projected started, the key issue is land acquisition which is entirely in the domain of the State Government.
The railway authorities have sent reminders to the State Government on the imperatives of expediting the land acquisition exercise, but there reminders have been greeted by silence.
Sources said the project could be frozen and put in the backburner in case the uncertainty prolonged. Railway officials in their letter to the State Government have stated that apart from introduction of new trains and improving connectivity to and from Mysuru, the project will also help in the socio-economic development of the region.
The project will cost ₹494.79 crore in the first phase and the Railway Board on its part had sanctioned ₹19.99 crore for the financial year 2021-22 in anticipation of cost sharing by the State Government.
The project requires 165 acres of land in the first phase during which four platforms, four pit lines and 8 stabling lines is envisaged. The second phase was expected to see the construction of another two platforms all of which would complement the existing six platforms in Mysuru city.
The project was originally mooted in 2007-08 and received administrative nod in 2018 with the timeline for completion set for 2024. But the onset of the pandemic and the financial constraints of the State Government may not see the project materializing in the near future.

So, Naganahalli terminal is for handling trains dumped by Bangalore!!.
Why don't they dump those trains to any locations in their division- like Hosur, Dharmapuri, Bangarapet, Tumkur? Why only Mysore?
As it is, Mysore is not getting any new line towards Kerala. All such dumped trains add more problems for Mysore for introducing new trains to cater to needs of Mysore.

MYS KCG extension is ok, but Basava or KCVL express and their timings are not ok. Are they extended to cater to Mysore or to free up platforms in Bangalore? Even MYS BSB or MYS SNSI are not for Mysore.
If railways care for Mysore, they should extend BIDAR YPR, and Brindavan to Mysore.
Anyway , KSK via KCG is spoiled. Why can't it run from YPR via MYS HAS UBL BAY KCG?!?

A trial run of the heli-borne survey being conducted at Sulthan Bathery in Wayanad district on Tuesday.  | Photo Credit: Special Arrangement
The Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) is gearing to launch the survey for the proposed Thalassery-Wayanad-Mysuru rail line by using the heliborne geophysical mapping technique.
The KRCL would reportedly use the service of the CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), Hyderabad, for the purpose.
officials of the NGRI conducted a trial run of the survey at Sulthan Bathery in the district on Tuesday.
The aerial survey would be conducted by using a helicopter attached with electromagnetic instruments, sources said. It would fly at a height of 50 metres with the instruments. It would provide a high resolution 3D image of the sub-surface up to a depth of 500 metres below the ground, sources said.
The survey would assess the structure of soil, rock formations, underground water sources, and marshy lands, the sources said.
If the climate was be favourable, the survey would begin at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, the sources said. During the first phase, the survey would be conducted from Sulthan Bathery to Mananthavady and later, similar surveys would be held in Thalassery and Mysuru.
The state-of-the-art technology, heli survey technology, would also be used to map the map aquifers in the northwestern States of the country, sources said.

Kerala government has proposed to construct viaduct in the forest area. Else like in Konkan railway, tunnels can be created. Kabini area around 20 kms forest area that too on the periphery is involved. Railway line parallel to Mysore Mananthavady road can be made. After Bavali, no issues in Kerala side. Line can go via - Mananthavady Iritty to Thalassery. Branch line to Kozhikode also be possible.
With a single train from Malabar area to Bangalore, already people are suffering. Ban of night bus traffic in Muthanga/ Bandipur national parks for more than a decade created havoc.
the project is with KRCL, they will come out with amicable solution.
Atleast one line from Mysore to Kerala should be laid - Nilambur Nanjangud or Kadakola to Mananthavady or Mysore Kushalnagar Mattanur.
Without link to Kerala, Mysore will be dead end and will be dumping ground for all Bangalore trains. No development can be expected. If any of these links materialise, Kozhikode Bangalore can be covered in 9-10 hours. It will free up MAQ SRR line as well as SRR MAS line. More trains can be run from Kannur/ Kozhikode to Chennai Tirupati Vijayawada Hyderabad Pune etc.
Think of tourist traffic to Wayanad Mysore.

The Inland Container Depot (ICD) has been stated at Desur in 2004, but in 2017 The Commissioner of Customs & Central Excise, Belagavi vide letter dated 04-04-2017 renewed the License of Custodianship of ICD, Desur for further period of Five Years from 18-04-2016 to 17-04-2021 & the Notification from Customs given permission to finally begin operation was in August 2019. The Operation has just picked up, when the termination Notice has been issued.
The Main aim of the Inland Container depot is to facilitate Exporters / Importers of North Karnataka area. To revive the operations at the ICD and an amount of about Rs.5 Cr. was invested in stepping up the infrastructure at the terminal like paved area, high mast lighting, Cameras, reach stacker to load and unload container, EDI CONNECTIVTY to ensure all transactions would be online.

New Belgaum Secunderabad train via Miraj Kurduvadi Solapur Kalaburagi would prove beneficial. Logic is that CR is operating Kolhapur Manuguru via SWR and hence SWR should operate BGM SC via CR. Will link BGM with KLBG.
Similarly Belgaum Chennai SF via UBL GTL RU will be an excellent one.
Both can be tried biweekly or triweekly and improved subsequently.
of business related movements are in Pune Belgaum area to Coimbatore. So a suitable train can be thought of in this sector via UBL DVG BAW SMVB SA

Joining the new line at Desur will be good. Else many trains will bypass Belgaum or enter with loco reversal. Thereby benefits of new line to Belgaum will be very less.
BGM JN at Sambra will be another MAJN.

The mighty SR PGT division, which blocks all Karnataka originating trains to MAQ, should not ask SWR to run Kozhikode Bangalore trains. They should show that SR is self reliant in running a train from Malabar area to Bangalore. Already SWR is running two trains to Kannur.
SR can achieve this in any of the following ways:
1. Extend daily Parasuram upto Bangalore. It can reach MAQ by 2030 and leave by 2100 to reach YPR by 0530. Return can leave YPR by 1915 to reach MAQ by
0430 and continue in existing TT to Nagercoil. Kozhikode gets an excellent perfect connection.
2. Biweekly MAQ KCG can be diverted from Tirupattur via KJM DMM instead of via KPD RU. Some 100 km distance is less and so 2 hours journey time saved for end to end passengers.
3. Introduce a bi/tri weekly CLT KCG via MAJN HAS BAW YNK DMM. SR can definitely think on these lines.
4. Run a Kozhikode Chennai SF via MAJN HAS BAW KJM (bypassing YPR/ SBC). This train can have maintenance at MAS. Both ends are in SR only, but it passes through SWR, something like Basava passing through SCR and CR to the destination in SWR.

I humbly request all SR authorities to explore such options, instead of asking SWR to run their 3rd train to North Kerala,. SWR has no resources and plans to run additional intra state trains and if SR, big brother, ask, they cannot refuse the request and it may give more heartburns.

Would be better if SR run a Chennai Kozhikode SF departure MAS/ MS at 1300 with CLT arrival 0730-0800 via KJM 1900-1915. Return CLT 1930, MAJN 2315, KJM 0800, MAS/MS 1400. PM at Chennai
Else ERS SBC via CLT with TT ERS 1515 CLT 1930 MAJN 2315 YPR/ SBC 0830. Return YPR/ SBC 1930, MAJN 0430, CLT 0800, ERS 1215. PM at ERS.

Nov 10 (18:25)   Costs rise as Karnataka decides to expedite old railway projects

This includes the long-pending Munirabad-Mehaboobanagar line that promises to significantly reduce the distance between Hyderabad, Hubballi and Goa
Karnataka will fast-track railway projects that are languishing since 2007 because of which their cost has almost doubled, Infrastructure Development Minister V Somanna said Wednesday.
This includes the long-pending 170-km Munirabad-Mehaboobanagar line that promises to significantly reduce the distance between Hyderabad, Hubballi and Goa.
Somanna, who
reviewed the infrastructure development department, found that of the nine railway projects cleared since 2007 at least four have seen their total cost go up from Rs 4,446 crore to Rs 8,683 crore - a 95% increase.
“There's been a huge escalation in cost. It burdens both the Centre and state. So, we have decided to expedite the projects,” Somanna said. “In the next 15-20 days, the government will resolve issues with land acquisition and other bottlenecks,” he said.
According to Somanna, the cost of the Tumakuru-Rayadurg line has gone up from Rs 479 crore to Rs 2,432 crore, Ginigera-Raichur from Rs 1,350 crore to Rs 2,565 crore, Bagalkot-Kudachi from Rs 816 crore to Rs 1,525 crore and Tumakuru-Chitradurga-Davangere from Rs 1,801 crore to Rs 2,161 crore.
Another railway line connecting Dharwad and Belagavi is still in the works.
Karnataka has a 50% share in the cost of these projects.
During the review, the minister took stock of 56 pending overbridges and underbridges (ROB/RUB). “They are also languishing in Bengaluru, Tumakuru and other places. We have decided to give some shape to this. We’re releasing our share (of funds). Once the Centre releases its share soon...minor land-related issues that were being used as an excuse for the delay (will be resolved). The delay has made citizens feel disgusted,” Somanna said.
“We want to finish all these projects in this financial year as much as possible. We will review them once every month,” he said.
The state government is holding talks with Indian Railways authorities. “They were being laggard. We have sent across whatever message we had to and work will speed up from tomorrow,” he said.
Work on new airports at Shivamogga, Vijayapura, Hassan, Raichur and Karwar are on track, the minister said. “The Shivamogga airport will be commissioned before 2022,” he said.

In the available lines, no trains are running. Rectify this first.
Within SWR.
How many trains in
1. Mysore to Chitradurga (fully in Mysore division)?
2. Shimoga to Ballari
Kukke Subrahmanya / Puttur to Hospet
4. Mysore Davanagere Hospet Bijapur
5. Ballari to Belgaum (fully Hubli division)
6. Ballari to Bijapur (fully Hubli division)

If you consider other zones also, why no train in
1. Bidar to Hubli
2. Gulbarga to Mangalore
3. Udupi to Mysore
4. Belgaum to Mangalore
No land acquisition, no line laying etc. Just run trains on available lines. Thats all.
Ask IR to sort out the multi zone issues and rectify Bangalore/ Hubli centric approach.
With the current speed, it will take 2 decades to complete Tumkur Chitradurga Davanagere line!!

Ha ha
Your reply seems like typical 'Swalpa adjust madikolli'' (SAM) style.
Let me elaborate.
For travel from Mysore to Chitradurga, wait for weekly Shirdi express or biweekly Banaras express (both not on shorter route) is SAM.
For Ballari to Bijapur, waiting for a weekly train going from Mysore to Shirdi is SAM.
travel from Ballari to Belgaum, waiting for SCR Tirupati Kolhapur train at midnight is SAM.
For Puttur to Hospet, wait for some train which will take me somewhere 80 kms from my destination and is yet to be introduced is SAM.
For Shimoga to Ballari, wait for SCR train to Tirupati which is yet to be introduced is SAM.
For my travel from Mysore to Hospet via Davanagere, asking me to go to Bangalore and wait for a yet to be introduced YPR BJP via DVG HPT GDG is tooooo much.
Expecting a similar reply, you may suggest BIDAR MAQ via YPR spending two night in train!!

What is possible in SWR area should be done without story telling. I expect/ demand:
1. daytime MYS BAY ICE or ONT via Hassan CTA.
2. ONT Mysore Bijapur via DVG HPT GDG, with convenient arrival departure at MYS/ HAS/HPT/ BAY , covering the distance MYS HPT in 8-9 hours and HPT BJP in another 5 hours.
3. SMET BAY ICE two trips daily or atleast one train SMET KCG via CTA BAY GTL RC.
4. BAY to BGM ONT crossing UBL at night odd hours.

As told in my other posts, try to explore what can be done by utilising available resources instead of swalpa adjust madikolli.
Nothing offensive against you.

Agreed. So existing already laid lines are after considering profitability. Right.
If you don't run any train, how profits will come?
Many half baked projects are in progress in SWR. Like
1. Hubli Ankola abandoned after spending good money,
Bagalkot Kudachi still born baby,
3. Hardly any train in DVG HPT line just because it bypasses Hubli.
1. Less number of trains in Hassan Mangalore line than 20 years MG era. What is the use of BG conversion?
2. Totally underutilized YNK CBP Bangarpet line.
3. No proper intra state trains (other than to Bangalore).

Shifting the blame on multiple zones, when you are not doing justice to the area under your control.
No trains to Mangalore - blame on SR
No dedicated train to Gulbarga - blame on CR.
No connection to Coastal areas - blame on KR.
But happily running trains from Bangalore to every part of Eastern areas and to SR areas. Nothing wrong in this, but try to cater to Karnataka more as you have 3 divisions in the state.

I agree that Bidar in SCR is beneficial than in SWR.
If KLBG division materialise, then if it is given to SCR will do good for KLBG. No development can be expected to KLBG if it is given to SWR.
With SCoR being pushed aggressively by AP, SCR will lose good area. In that scenario, Raichur part of GTL division will become part of SCoR. Instead, if KLBG division is formed and given to SCR, it can be better. In that case, Bidar can be part of KLBG division. If so,
one can expect direct SBC Bidar train via GTL RC KLBG.

For the loss of 3-4 coach UBL NZM link in Goa express, KSK via KCG was diverted!!!. Instead SWR should have started triweekly Delhi train via BJP DD MMR.
SWR is ready to inconvenience Bangalore travellers but they won't give any facility to BGK BJP.
Why KSK via Pune? Why not via GDG BJP, which is shorter by 80 kms?
