Railway authorities noticed a fracture on track near Poongodi around 3.15am on Thursday. Due to the incident, the Thiruchendur Express that was supposed to cross Poongodi was delayed for over an hour as authorities were involved in carrying out works.
The loco pilot of the train experienced heavy vibration while crossing near Poongodi, a few kilometers from here. He then reported it to engineers at the division. All the express trains, inculding Chendur, Sengottai and Pandiyan express trains were made to run slow till the afternoon due to the works. Trains moved at 10 km/hr speed in order to avoid any untoward incidents.

more... the trains that were running through the line were delayed due to the fracture. The division authorities arrived in the morning to clear the fracture. But, trains such as Thiruchendur express, Sengottai and Pandiyan were delayed.
The Thiruchendur- Chennai Egmore was delayed by an hour, and some of the trains were stopped at Kulathoor due to the ongoing works. The Tiruchendur Express was delayed for more than two hours before reaching its destination. Senior authorities from the railway said that the fracture was rectified by afternoon and all the trains began to run normally to the railway, except for some trains getting delayed.
