It's not about religion. It's desperation that's forcing people to book in spite of the ridiculous fares. 99% of the travelers will be Goans who will have certain religious vows due to which they will travel regardless of the fares. Railways are just playing a wicked game here by minting money by taking advantage. We railfans won't fall for this and will find alternative chains to reach VLNK for less than 1/4th the price. But the layman suffers. For example, for people of Coastal KA and KL, they can travel in 22150 or 12686 and catch the Ernakulam Velankanni Special which has more than 500 vacant seats. The ticket fare will be less than 1/4th the price of the Suvidha's last minute fare.
