So the trend of converting very heavily loss making passenger trains into express trains and collecting much higher fare from paxs is spreading to more and more zones. It is definitely a good mover by IR to rationalize loss making trains to reduce the losses or to make them profitable.

(2) On conversion from passenger to express category, the avg. speed of the passenger train should be raised to atleast 45-50 kmph by speeding it up, giving higher priority and reducing slack time.
(3) Generally express trains have much higher number of coaches resulting in higher pax. carrying capacity and much higher revenue generation
