Born in Lucknow, Uda Devi was a brave warrior from the Dalit community who took part in the Revolt of 1857 against the British East India Company. Defending Avadh from the British attacks, she took part in the Battle of Sikandar Bagh in November 1857 where she killed more than half-a-dozen men single handedly.
