Useful Great
After /blog/post/6187358 , here is the list of top ten biggest cities in central India (MP-CG) in terms of IR earnings.
1. Bhopal: Total Passengers 17527382 Total Earnings 6588103990
2. Indore: Total Passengers 10549351 Total Earnings 4063666089
3. Jabalpur: Total Passengers 10365738 Total Earnings 3447768501
4.
...
Raipur: Total Passengers 9864551 Total Earnings 3181061617
5. Gwalior: Total Passengers 10048370 Total Earnings 2872295048
6. Ujjain: Total Passengers 8062776 Total Earnings 2674896834
7. Bilaspur: Total Passengers 7403440 Total Earnings 2057585621
8. Durg: Total Passengers 6757645 Total Earnings 1598220918
9. Satna: Total Passengers 36,32,587 Total Earnings 1,10,89,32,721
10. Katni: Total Passengers 4990087 Total Earnings 1088987434
Introducing two new measures of Earnings per capita and Earnings per train.
.
Note:
1. All the stations within the greater city region have been considered.
2. Stations till NSG-6 category have been considered.
3. Special trains have been disregarded to determine the total number of trains.
4. The data by SECR seems all faulty (except that of RSM). They have probably swapped the columns of the Reserved and Unreserved.
.
Interesting Observations:
1. JBP is the only city with stations falling into two zones.
2. Whilst UJN observed more number of reserved category pax than GWL, earnings of GWL were more. Similar observations exist for BSP-Durg, KTE-USL, MML-LMNR, ADTL-BQR and BLNR-DPH.
3. At the city level, Gwalior, Raipur and Jabalpur observed more number of UR pax than Indore. Similarly, Bilaspur and Durg observed more number of UR pax than Ujjain and Katni observed more than Satna. At the station level, GWL, R, UJN and KTE are some stations which observed more number of UR pax than BPL, INDB, JBP and STA respectively.
4. GWL and Katni observed more number of total pax than R and STA respectively, but observed less earnings. GWL, R, BSP and KTE are some stations which observed more pax than INDB, JBP, RKMP and KMZ respectively, but have less earnings.
5. Bigger stations usually had more earnings from Reserved pax than the UR. Smaller stations observed vice versa. MML is the only exception which observed more earnings from UR pax than the Reserved. LMNR, BIA and VRG are some stations which observed more earnings from Reserved pax than the UR in spite being NSG-6.
5. Earnings from UR pax seems to be totally unrelated with the number of UR pax.
6. At the city level, Gwalior, Bilaspur and Katni observed more earnings from UR than Raipur, Ujjain and Satna respectively. At the station level, GWL surpassed even JBP to occupy the third position in UR earnings.
7. SHRN and USL are two stations which observed the highest jump from NSG-5 to NSG-3.
8. Durg, Raipur and Indore observed the highest earnings per capita in the reserved category. At the station level, LMNR tops being followed by Durg and SHRN.
9. Satna, Indore and Jabalpur observed the highest earnings per capita in the UR category. USL, KMZ and STA observed the highest per capita at the station level.
10. Indore, Bhopal and Jabalpur retain their positions within total earnings per capita. USL tops this list at the station level.
11. BPL has the highest number of trains followed by STA and GWL. INDB turns out to be the biggie under earnings per train category followed by BPL and JBP.

Thanks
Bro, I think there needs to be more research done to arrive at the exact conclusion. Because there are zones and stations where not much trains originate(other than locals)and they don't get seat quota on other zonal trains like R gets very few seats in Puri-Indb for indore. Like, this there are tons of examples. I have seen them either taking road transport or reaching to the nearby hub like Ngp to catch the desired train, to Sbc and other major cities. so exact scenario could have been different if all cities could get fair share of trains and seats available.
But the way nice work. Appreciate your efforts, keep it up.

Yes certainly. The best example over here I guess is none other than INDB itself. I can assure you a good fraction of the earnings of UJN, RTM and BPL owe to the people of Indore, because as highlighted by you, even Indore is devoid of many trains. Hence, the privilege is always being enjoyed by railway junctions.

Agree
Yes, exactly if Indb were on the mainline like Bpl, it would certainly have given more pax and revenue than Bpl due to more population.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
