BENGALURU: The government has finally taken the first step towards developing suburban rail connectivity to Kempegowda International Airport from the city.
Addressing the press on Tuesday, Bengaluru development minister K J George said the government has decided to provide a rail link between Yeshwantpur and KIA, and that railway officials have already given in-principal approval for the project.
The government has directed officials to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) and the project will cost around Rs 1,600 crore, he said."The project requires an elevated station at Yeshwantpur and we plan to build

one. We are mulling over whether to have a station at the trumpet interchange or provide logistics at Devanahalli station from where passengers can reach KIA," the minister added.
George said they plan to have a new rail link parallel to the existing railway line between Yeshwantpur and Chikkaballapura. "Only between Yeshwantpur and Yelahanka there are some technical problems. Thereafter, there's absolutely no problem as far as rail connectivity is concerned," he added.
On the recent protest against axing of trees at Shivananda Circle for the steel flyover project, George said not a single tree would be cut. He said a decision has be taken to widen the railway bridge near Shivananda Circle, as suggested by some citizens, and that he has directed chief engineer, BBMP, to prepare an estimate.
The minister said he has directed the BBMP to deal with the menace of flexes and posters mercilessly, and book criminal cases against the defaulters

To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...
