I have never been a fan of the WAP7, it is an jugaad version of the WAG9, and really a so-so locomotive. WAP-5s and WAP4s are far superior to it both in terms of reliability and performance.

more... hauling capacity of a WAP7 decreases sharply after 130, whereas the decline is somewhat more controlled in a WAP5. That is the why the WAP5 is rated for higher speeds. In terms of reliability WAP4/5 blows the P7s easily. Every alternate day you have a P7 failing but failure rates in P4/P5 are much lower.
The best locomotive in my opinion are EMD WDP4 series, they proved their merit hauling Talcos at 180 km/hr. And the WDG4 series can haul more load than the WAG9. This is because the diesel locomotive that you seem to have problem with has more weight and therefore can generate more tractive effort.
So, yeah the WAP7 maybe the workhorse locomotive of IR but IR has better alternatives.
