‘Will urge the Centre and State to implement the service, if elected’
“My dream is to see a metro rail-like service within Mandya,” said Ramya, incumbent MP and Congress candidate from the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency.
While her opponents are seeking votes by promising to solve issues pertaining to agriculture, Ms. Ramya has been approaching voters with a “vision of all-round development” of the segment.
the midst of campaigning, she told The Hindu that a rail system like metro is the need of the hour in the district.
The district has seven taluks — Mandya, Malavalli, Maddur, Srirangapatna, Pandavapura, Nagamangala and K.R. Pet —and the public transport system has not improved as expected.
Ms. Ramya also highlighted the need to create more employment by initiating development projects such as a food park, Information Technology park, textile park and automobile industries in the district.
Emphasising the need for a “visionary MP” for the development of the Mandya LS segment, she said that the district headquarters should be effectively connected with the taluk centres as people are dependent on Mandya for administration and business activities.
The MP claimed that she would recommend to the Centre and the State governments to implement a metro rail-like service, if elected.
“The district is fast outgrowing its limits and to match this pace of development, we have to establish satellite townships in different parts of Mandya. It would help develop the entire region and attract investors,” she said.
Ms. Ramya also underlined the necessity to establish an IT Park near Srirangapatna, a Mega Food Park in K.R. Pet, a textile park, and automobile, tourism, biotechnology and education sectors at other places in the constituency. “I will meet the IT and industrial bigwigs and invite them so that they can invest in the district,” she said. Constructing a bypass to the city on the Bangalore–Mysore highway, setting up/upgrading maternity hospitals and primary health centres (PHCs), educational institutions for girls, providing toilets and other infrastructure for educational institutions, developing roads and drainages, and setting up transformer repairing centres in all taluk centres were some of her other dreams for Mandya, she said.
Water dispute
Constructing a reservoir across the Cauvery in Mekedatu to generate hydroelectric power will not affect irrigation in Tamil Nadu, Ms. Ramya said.
“I am ready to meet Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to clarify the issue in the interests of our farmers,” she said.
Ms. Ramya stressed the need for solving the water dispute through dialogue.
Ramya highlighted the need for development projects such as a food park and IT sector
‘Setting up maternity hospitals and educational institutions some of my dreams’

I am from Mandya & I know how she got elected... Its a cruel joke on the voter's of Mandya. People here need better roads an Improved law order situation and the list is endless. I have seen trains running blw Asn & hwh having dedicated coaches for a particular station. Similarly travelers in Mya needs a similar arrangement. trains originating from mys to sbc are full at their source destination. No room for mya passengers. Request Ramya ji to come up with a proposal for reserved coaches for mya passengers.

To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...
