Central Railway have yet again come out with an innovation, and based on the successful trial runs, if implemented, will act as one more indicator for the Mumbaikars, not to risk their lives and wait for another local, for reaching their homes and destinations safe.
Central Railway have installed a blue light visual indicator just above the entrance of one EMU coach for guiding the commuters not to board the running train, at the last moment.  Due to the fact that unlike METRO Trains or AC EMUs which have an electronic door closer and due to the impracticality (suffocation, etc) of providing doors on Non-AC EMU Coaches, the blue light visual indicator is being tried at present.  The blue light visual indicator indicates when to stop boarding the train before it becomes unsafe and draws a boundary on the platform which is the minimum clearance level for commuters to avoid accidents while the train is in motion.
Visual Indicator emits a beam of light over the entrance area, when train starts, taking connection from the Guard who gives the beat to start the train and the commuter is alerted and warned of the imminent danger of being too close to the train on the platform, thereby guiding him/her to back off from the train.  This device will definitely act as a psychological barrier from boarding the moving train and also as a deterrent to the  people,  not to board the running train.
The work of installation of Blue light visual Indicator has been carried out in Kurla car shed of Central Railway under able guidance of Shri D.K. Sharma, General Manager, Central Railway.
Central Railway would monitor the performance of the new blue light visual indicator and based on the outcome and the commuter feedback, a decision would be taken on installation of Visual Indicators on more coaches/rakes of Mumbai Suburban Locals.

station of Central Railway has the distinction of being the 2nd station on Indian Railways to become Green Station where all the energy needs are met by solar and wind mill generated power.  It was followed by Jumapatti, Waterpipe, Aman Lodge and Matheran by turning green.
Now, Roha, Pen and Apta stations of Central Railway have also become green stations thereby saving precious energy.  The power requirement at these stations are now met by solar and wind mill generated green energy which is given below:
Roha station has 15 KWp solar power panel generating around 65-80 KWh power daily. Earlier the electrical load of Roha station was 21 kW while the present load is only 11.81 kW achieving 80% energy saving with solar power. The yearly saving in terms of money value will be Rs.3.54 lakh.
Pen station has 5 KWp solar power panel and 7.2 KWp solar + wind mill generating around 60-70 kWh power daily.  The load of 14 kW at Pen station has come down to 7.65 kW achieving 80% energy saving.  The yearly saving in terms of money value will be Rs.2.19 lakh.
Apta station has 5 KWp solar power panel generating around 25-30 kWh power daily. The load of 8.52 kW has come down to 4.38 kW achieving 80% energy saving.  The yearly saving in terms of money value will be Rs.3.26 lakh.
All three stations have Solar water cooler with a storage capacity of 150 litres each; while Roha has a solar water pump of 3 HP capacity, Apta and Pen have solar water cooler with a storage capacity of 150 litres each.  These green stations are provided with most energy efficient BLDC ceiling fans.
The energy data at these stations are monitored on real time basis through building energy management systems BEMS

is worth mentioning that 3-phase Locomotives have a unique useful facility of converting mechanical energy of the trains into electrical energy during braking which otherwise would have gone wasted. Loco Pilots have been encouraged to maximise use of this facility available in these locomotives. As a result, energy regeneration to the tune of 15% of total energy consumed by these locomotives has been achieved over NCR.A record saving of about 7.9 crores units of energy by way of energy regeneration has been achieved during 2018-19 (April to December) over NCR which is Highest over Indian Railways.
Shri Anupam Singhal, Chief Electrical Locomotive Engineer and other officer & staff were also present on the occasion.
