The third wave of Covid-19 is already here, Mumbai mayor Kishori Pednekar said on Tuesday as she cautioned people against celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi outside their homes amid the rising cases of Covid-19 and positivity rate over the past few days in the city as well as Maharashtra. "The third-wave [of Covid-19] is not coming, it is already here. It has already been declared in Nagpur,” Kishori Pednekar told reporters. Pednekar also urged people in Mumbai to remain at home during Ganesh Chaturthi, which will begin on September 10, as she stressed that they should wear masks and take other precautions to stop the spread of Covid-19.

Pednekar was referring to Nagpur guardian minister Nitin Raut remarks that the city is already been hit by the third wave of Covid-19. "Today, after a long time, we have come down to twice as many positive cases. We have a third wave," Nitin Raut was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

Raut also said more restrictions could be imposed in the district in the next three to four days as the daily infection count has been rising in double digits. There were 12 cases of Covid-19 in the city on Monday, which have taken its tally to 493,072.

He said the enhanced restrictions could include restaurants being allowed to remain open till 8pm instead of 10pm, shops and other establishments till 4pm and a complete shutdown on weekends, with only essential services being allowed to operate. "After a meeting with traders and other organisations in two to three days, enhanced restrictions will be announced," the minister said, according to PTI.

Maharashtra registered 3,626 new Covid-19 cases and 37 deaths on Monday and Mumbai recorded 383 fresh infections and five deaths. The relatively lower numbers of fresh infections were a result of fewer tests conducted in the last 24 hours over the weekend. The state on Sunday logged 4,057 new cases as 193,193 samples were tested. The number of active patients in Maharashtra stands at 47,695—with the most in Pune with 12,413 patients, followed by 7,275 in Thane and 6,328 in Satara.

The revamped Gandhinagar railway station in Gujarat, the first-of-its-kind in the country to have a five-star hotel occupying the airspace above the station, will be virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 16, official sources said on Tuesday. He will be flagging off two trains during the inauguration.
The first train will be a new weekly super-fast train between Gandhinagar and Varanasi, the Lok Sabha constituency of Modi. The other will be a MEMU train from Gandhinagar to Varetha. This train will connect Vadnagar which is the Prime Minister’s hometown. There has been no railway service to the state capital, ever since the work of reconstructing the railway station and hotel began about four years ago.

to The Indian Express, a senior official of the Western Railways said, “A weekly train from Gandhinagar Railway Station to Varanasi Station will be flagged off virtually by PM Modi coming Friday. The timings and schedule of the train has not been announced yet. Moreover, a Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) train service from Gandhinagar to Varetha (Mehsana) will also be flagged off by PM Modi. This will connect Gandhinagar, Kalol, Mehsana, Vadnagar and Varetha. During the same event, the electrified broad gauge line connecting Gandhinagar and Varetha and a 266-kilometer long electrified Pipavav-Surendranagar route will also be dedicated to the nation.”
Earlier this week, The Indian Express had reported that 98 per cent work on the Gandhinagar railway station and hotel has been completed. The five-star hotel which will be operated and managed by M/s Hotel Leela Ventures Limited (now Schloss HMA Pvt Ltd) is also conducting trial runs before beginning the actual operations.
The hotel which will be largest in the Gandhinagar will be stimulated 22 meters above the railway station and will have four main towers. It is aligned to the Dandi Kutir Museum and the Mahatma Mandir which has been the venue for the state government sponsored Vibrant Gujarat summits.
The cost of redeveloping the railway station and building a 318-room five-star hotel over it has escalated by 208 per cent within three years. The project, where 18 more hotel rooms have been added and the area increased will now cost almost Rs 750 crore.
GARUD which is in charge of the project is a joint venture of Gujarat government and Ministry of Railways acting through Indian Railway Station Development Corporation Limited (IRSDC) with an equity shareholding in ratio of 74:26, respectively.
During the virtual event on July 16 where Union Home minister Amit Shah is also expected to join, the Prime Minister will also launch three new projects in Gujarat Science City campus in Ahmedabad. This will include a Rs 264 crore aquatic gallery, Rs 127 crore Robotic Gallery and Rs 14 crore Nature Park.

Manduadih is a place in Varanasi situated about four kilometres from Varanasi Cantt Station. The Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW), where engine parts of the train are manufactured, is situated near Manduadih.
The Union Home Ministry has approved the renaming of Manduadih railway station in Uttar Pradesh as 'Banaras', officials said on Monday. The Uttar Pradesh government had sent a request for renaming the railway station in Varanasi district.

ministry considers proposals for name change according to the existing guidelines in consultations with agencies concerned.
It gives its approval to any proposal for change of name of any place after taking no-objections from the Ministry of Railways, Department of Posts and Survey of India, another official said. For changing the name of a village or town or a city, an executive order is needed. The renaming of a state requires amendment of the Constitution with a simple majority in Parliament, the official said.

Varanasi, also called Banaras and Kashi, was chosen in 2014 by Narendra Modi to contest the Lok Sabha polls from city of Uttar Pradesh. The name Varanasi is said to be derived from combination of 'Varuna' and 'Asi' — the names of rivers. Kashi is the ancient name of Varanasi.
When the name change was proposed two years ago, Dushyant Rai, the Rajbhasha consultant in the Railway Board, had explained, "The name Banaras means 'bana rahe ras'. This word reflects the real culture of the city. The people in Banaras enjoy everything. Be it 'geet-sangeet, puja-path and also misthanna-paan'," said Rai, who hails from the city.
A top railway official of Varanasi division was then quoted saying by IANS: "The name Manduadih doesn't sound good and doesn't connect with the legacy of Banaras which the name Banaras does."
Mughalsarai Junction is another important station located near Varanasi whose name was changed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay junction in October 2017 after the BJP came to power in Uttar Pradesh.

While the lockdown in India is to end on May 31, Himachal Pradesh has already announced an extension in two of its districts. According to reports, the Himachali districts of Solan and Hamirpur are going to remain under lockdown until June 30. The government in Himachal Pradesh has asked districts to extend the lockdown if required.
With a total of 214 cases of coronavirus in the state of Himachal Pradesh, the state is not taking any risk, and is taking action. While Solan has had 21 cases so far, Hamirpur has reported 63 cases of the Coronavirus. Reports suggest that during the extended period of lockdown, the districts of Solan and Hamirpur will remain for essential services, and there would be a

few hours of curfew relaxation everyday.
While domestic air travel in India has now begun, and the Indian Railways has also started operating 200 trains, there still remains doubt regarding what our future holds. During such a time, as the rest of the country is planning to return to normalcy, and is waiting for the lockdown to end, Himachal Pradesh decides to go the other way. But as they say, prevention is better than cure, so perhaps it is the ideal decision.
Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state in this pandemic, with over 50000 confirmed cases of coronavirus. Only yesterday, the city of Pune recorded 459 positive cases of COVID-19. While Mumbai has somewhere around 30000 confirmed cases in the state.
