DEHRADUN: Haridwar-based Shristi Goswami (19) will become the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand for one day on January 24 which is the National Girl Child Day.

She will administer from Gairsain, the summer capital of the state, and will review various schemes run by the state government.

Describing her once in a lifetime chance, Goswami, who is a student of third year BSc, said, "I still cannot believe if this is true. I am so overwhelmed. But at the same time, I will do my best to prove that youth can excel in administration while working for people's welfare."

Some of the schemes she will review include Atal Ayushman Scheme, Smart City project, Homestay Scheme by the tourism department, and other development projects.

Goswami has been the CM of Bal Vidhan Sabha (Children's State Assembly) since 2018.

Authorities from the state government said that officials of various departments of the state government will give her a detailed presentation before she starts functioning as the CM.

A letter in this regard has been written by Uttarakhand Child Rights Protection Commission to the Chief Secretary of the hill state.

Usha Negi, the chairperson of the commission said, "The arrangements regarding this have already been made in the state assembly building in Gairsain. Srishti has been working with us for a while now and we are well aware of her capabilities."

Videos of Dr Rajani and Dr Nagendrappa posing for photos to show they had taken the vaccine went viral on social media.

A viral message along with two videos claiming to be that of Tumakuru health officials “pretending” to take doses of the vaccine went viral on Thursday. This message, however, has been ascertained as fake and misleading, Tumakuru Deputy Commissioner Dr Rakesh Kumar said. The videos he is referring to are of Dr Rajani and Dr Nagendrappa posing for photos as though they are being administered a dose of vaccine.
...

In the first video, the Principal of the Government Medical College in Karnataka’s Tumakuru, Dr Rajani, can be seen sitting on a chair, while a nurse with a shot of the vaccine is about to dose her with it. However, after a few seconds, Dr Rajani is seen, pushing the nurse’s hand away and (is) not administered the dose. The video went viral on WhatsApp, Twitter and Facebook, along with a message that read, “Tumakuru Government Medical College Principal and admin acted as though she got the vaccine.”

In the second video, Tumakuru District Health Officer Dr Nagendrappa too can be seen posing for pictures of him taking the vaccine. The nurse, who holds the syringe ner his bicep, withdraws it immediately after the photos are taken. This video too was circulated with the message that the DHO had pretended to take the vaccine. Dr Nagendrappa told TNM that the video was taken for the benefit of the press as visuals of the district officials being vaccinated were not shot earlier. “This is not true at all. I found out about this when people began demanding our resignation. We did not do anything wrong,” he said.

Dr Rajani and Dr Nagendrappa were among the first few frontline workers in Tumakuru to be administered the first dose of Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin on January 16.

Speaking to TNM, Tumakuru Deputy Commissioner Dr Rakesh Kumar said that the message that Dr Rajani was “pretending” to take the vaccine is blatantly false.

“This is clearly a misunderstanding. Dr Rajani had been given the first dose of the vaccine on January 16. The press reporters had not got visuals of the vaccine being injected and asked her to pose for the pictures, which is what she did. She was not pretending to take the vaccine,” Tumakuru DC, Dr Rakesh Kumar said.

Local television channel reporters too confirmed to TNM that Dr Rajani had posed for the pictures and the video upon their request.

Train Tag: Kalka Mail/12311 added by Netaji Express 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳/2071619
Days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrates the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, the Indian Railways on Tuesday renamed one of its oldest trains, the Howrah-Kalka Mail, as the ‘Netaji Express’.
Railway Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted: “Netaji’s prakram had put India on the express route of freedom and development. I am thrilled to celebrate his anniversary with the introduction of ‘Netaji Express’.”
Started in the 19th Century as one of the early commercial passenger train services in India, the Kalka mail has always enjoyed a steady patronage and popularity connecting

The Mamata Banerjee government will hold discussions with the railways in a bid to convince the central utility that giving free-hold land rights to the residents in refugee colonies set up on its land will not hurt its interest.

The decision has been taken in view of the railways’ reservations about the Bengal government issuing free-hold land rights to the residents of the refugee colonies on its plots.
...

The move, sources in Nabanna said, has been initiated after the state government decided to go all out to issue free-hold land rights to nearly 1.5 lakh families residing in 330-odd refugee colonies by April this year. Of these, 200-odd colonies are on central government land, primarily on the plots owned by the railways.

“We have already issued free-hold land rights to 20,000 families living in refugee colonies. Most of these families were residing in 94 colonies set up on state government land. We have started issuing land rights to the families living in the colonies set up on central government land. As some questions were raised, we are ready to hold discussions with the railways on the issue,” said a senior government official.

According to sources, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) had recently written a letter to the district magistrate of Jalpaiguri, pointing out that some pattas (long term settlement rights) had been issued to some local people on railway land.

The NFR had asked the DM to intervene and “nullify” the pattas and allow the railways to take possession of the land. The railways had threatened to move to court if the district authorities failed to do the needful.

“This has left the state government in an awkward situation. It is now being apprehended that if the railways move court and secure a stay on such activity, the plan to give free-hold rights to the colony residents would hit a roadblock ahead of the Assembly polls,” said an official.

According to sources, the state government would try to make the railways understand that it is better to regularise the refugee colonies set up on its land as evicting the residents is almost impossible as they have been residing there for about 40-50 years.

“We will offer the railways that the state would help the utility guard its land which was not encroached upon so far. We can earmark their land which is free from encumbrances and we will help them erect fencing to guard their plots,” said an official.

Furthermore, the state will convey to the railways that it would give free-hold rights to the land on which the structures have been erected.

“The remaining portion of the plots can be used by the railways,” the official added.

The state government is banking heavily on its initiatives of giving free-hold land rights to the residents of refugee colonies to counter the BJP’s campaign related to the Citizenship Amendment Act.

“As majority of the refugee colonies are on central government land, we have to find a solution outside the court. We want the refugees to get land-related documents ahead of the Assembly polls as people who crossed over to West Bengal from Bangladesh in the past 40-50 years hold the key to electoral success in at least 20-22 Assembly seats,” said a minister.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday flagged off new eight trains connecting Gujarat's Kevadia, which houses Statue of Unity, to several other destinations of the country and said this is a beautiful picture of 'Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat'. "This is probably for the first time in the history of railways that so many trains from different locations of the country get flagged off to the same destination," PM Modi said.

"More visitors are coming to the Statue of Unity than the Statue of Liberty. Kevadia is not a small place any more.
...

It will become one of the most attractive tourist spots of the world," the Prime Minister said. In future, over 1 lakh people will come to visit Kevadiya every day, PM Modi said quoting a survey.

Paying his tributes to Bharat Ratna MGR on his birth anniversary, PM Modi said, "One of the trains flagged off for Kevadia today originates at Puratchi Thalaivar Dr MG Ramachandran Central Railway Station. His life was dedicated to the service of the poor."

Taking a journey down memory lane, Modi said once he used to take a narrow-gauge train, which was so slow that one could get off the train at any time and then again ride the train. "If you walk along with the train, sometimes you will be faster. I used to enjoy this too when I was a regular passenger; I spent a lot of time at Narmada for a considerable period of my life. That line is being converted into broad gauge now," he said.

The new trains will connect Varanasi, Dadar, Ahmedabad, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Reqa, Chennai, Pratap Nagar to Kevadiya. Apart from these, PM Modi on Sunday inaugurated several other railway projects in Kevadiya, including Dabhoi-Chandid gauge converted broad gauge rail line, Chandod-Kevadita new broad gauge rail line, Pratapnagar-Kevadiya newly electrified section, new station buildings of Dabhoi Junction, Chandod and Kevadiya.

Jan Shatabdi Express between Ahmedabad and Kevadia will have Vistadome coaches.

Railways minister Piyush Goyal congratulated PM Modi on the beginning of the vaccination drive and said PM Modi's leadership has added speed to India's development.

"For us, the Statue of Unity is not just a statue. It symbolises unity and the new trains will connect Kevadia to all corners of the country," Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani said adding that the new projects will also help uplift the lives of the tribals living in Kevadia.
